Kathmandu- The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nepal celebrated Russia Day with a special reception in Kathmandu, attended by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav as the chief guest, alongside government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and distinguished guests.
Addressing the gathering, Russian Ambassador to Nepal Aleksei V. Surovtsev highlighted the enduring friendship between Russia and Nepal, noting that 2026 marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations on July 20.
“The upcoming anniversary is not merely a celebration of diplomatic ties but of a traditional and time-tested friendship based on goodwill, mutual respect, and strong people-to-people contacts,” the Ambassador said.
He emphasized that Russia highly values Nepal’s sovereign foreign policy, which is rooted in the principles of non-alignment and Panchsheel. Expressing optimism about the future of bilateral cooperation, the Ambassador identified several sectors with strong potential for partnership, including hydropower, information technology, agro-industry, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, transport infrastructure, railways, tourism, and humanitarian exchanges.
“Economic cooperation and people-to-people connections should form the backbone of our future partnership,” he stated.
The Ambassador also underscored the importance of expanding economic collaboration and strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries.
Concluding his remarks, he said that while his speech had come to an end, the friendship between Russia and Nepal certainly had not. The event continued with a special cultural programme organized for the guests.
The Ambassador particularly acknowledged the contribution of Vladislav Dmitriev, Representative of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nepal and Mumbai, for his efforts in organizing the cultural performance and promoting economic cooperation between Russia and Nepal.
The Russia Day celebration served as a platform to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between the two nations and explore new avenues of cooperation as Nepal and Russia enter the eighth decade of their diplomatic relationship.
